Pulping Process

The Kraft pulping process is a dominant method in the paper-making industry involving the conversion of wood into wood pulp using a mixture of sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfide, known as white liquor, to break down the lignin that binds cellulose fibers. The wood chips are cooked in a digester, with the white liquor, resulting in a pulp that is separated from the lignin and other components, forming black liquor. The pulp is then washed and screened to remove any remaining impurities before being bleached and processed into paper products.

Bleaching Process

The bleaching process is essential for producing white or lighter-colored paper by removing residual lignin from pulp and involves treating the pulp with various chemicals such as chlorine dioxide, oxygen, ozone, and hydrogen peroxide. This process aims to increase the pulp’s brightness and purity while minimizing damage to the cellulose fibers. Bleached pulp is then washed thoroughly to remove any remaining chemicals before being processed into high-quality paper products.

Recycling Process

Recycling involves the collection of used paper products and converting them back into usable pulp by sorting and shredding the recycled paper, and then mixing it with water to create a slurry. Adhesives, and other contaminants are then removed from the slurry using flotation, washing, or chemical treatment processes. The cleaned pulp is then refined, blended with new pulp if necessary, and formed into sheets through pressing and drying.
