Viton® GFLT is a low-temperature fluoroelastomer (FKM) variant designed to offer enhanced flexibility and sealing performance in cold environments while maintaining the chemical and heat resistance of standard Viton™ (FKM). It is commonly used in valve seats, seals, and O-rings where both chemical compatibility and low-temperature elasticity are critical.
Properties
- Improved Low-Temperature Performance – Remains flexible down to -40°C (-40°F), outperforming standard Viton™, which typically stiffens below -15°C (5°F).
- Excellent Chemical Resistance – Retains standard Viton™ resistance to hydrocarbons, oils, fuels, acids, and many aggressive chemicals.
- High-Temperature Resistance – Operates at temperatures up to +200°C (392°F) continuously.
- Low Gas Permeability – Effective for high-pressure gas and vacuum applications in valves.
- Good Compression Set Resistance – Maintains sealing integrity in static and dynamic valve applications even after prolonged service.
Viton® GFLT vs. Standard Viton® (FKM)
• Better cold flexibility than standard FKM (Viton™).
• Maintains similar chemical resistance profile to FKM (Viton™).
• Designed specifically for applications requiring both chemical resistance and low-temperature sealing.
Limitations
- More Expensive Than Standard FKM – Premium pricing due to its low-temp and chemical resistance combination.
- Not Compatible with Ketones & Amines – Like other FKMs, it has poor resistance to acetone, MEK, and ammonia.
- Slightly Lower High-Temperature Limit Compared to Other Specialty FKM Grades – Some FKM types exceed +220°C (428°F), while GFLT is typically limited to +200°C.
Common Applications
Oil & Gas Valves – Used in pipeline, wellhead, and refinery valves in cold climates or subsea environments where low-temperature flexibility is essential.
Chemical Processing Valves – Suitable for aggressive chemical services where exposure to hydrocarbons, acids, and solvents is common.
Cryogenic & Refrigeration Valves – Applied in LNG systems, cold storage, and low-temperature gas services.
Aerospace & Defense Valves – Used in fuel and hydraulic valves where extreme temperature cycling occurs.
