
HVOF (High-Velocity Oxy-Fuel) coating is an advanced thermal spray process used to apply wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant coatings to valve components, significantly extending their service life in extreme wear and corrosion environments.
Properties
- Superior Wear & Abrasion Resistance – Provides high hardness (1000+ HV), reducing erosion and galling.

- High Bond Strength – Strong adhesion to stainless steel, carbon steel, and superalloy valve materials.
- Low Porosity (<1%) – Prevents penetration of corrosive media.
- Improved Temperature Resistance – Can withstand temperatures up to 900°C (1652°F), ideal for high-heat applications.
HVOF vs. Other Coatings
• Stronger and more wear-resistant than hard chrome plating or nitriding.
• More corrosion-resistant than plasma-sprayed coatings due to lower porosity.
• Superior temperature resistance compared to PTFE or epoxy coatings.

Limitations
- Higher Cost – More expensive than traditional plating (e.g., hard chrome) or nitriding.
- Requires Specialized Equipment – Needs high-pressure oxygen and fuel systems.
- Surface Preparation Required – Parts must be grit-blasted and precisely machined for coating adhesion.
