Ni-Resist is a nickel-alloyed cast iron designed for high corrosion, heat, and wear resistance. It is commonly used in valve bodies, seats, and components for demanding environments including marine, chemical, and high-temperature applications where standard cast iron or ductile iron would fail.
Properties
- Superior Corrosion Resistance – Resistant to saltwater, mild acids, and alkaline solutions, making it ideal for marine and chemical industries.
- Good High-Temperature Performance – Can withstand temperatures up to 800°C (1472°F) without significant degradation.
- Wear & Abrasion Resistance – Contains graphite and nickel, which enhance wear resistance in slurry and abrasive fluid applications.
- Low Thermal Expansion – Reduces thermal stress in high-temperature and fluctuating conditions.
- Moderate Strength & Ductility – Stronger than gray cast iron, but not as tough as ductile iron or stainless steel.
Ni-Resist vs. Other Valve Materials
• Better corrosion resistance than ductile iron or gray cast iron
• More wear-resistant than stainless steel in abrasive applications
• Less impact-resistant and weaker than stainless steel or carbon steel
Limitations
- Lower Strength Than Steel or Ductile Iron – Not ideal for high-pressure applications.
- More Expensive Than Standard Cast Iron – Higher nickel content increases cost.
- Limited Impact Resistance – More brittle than ductile iron or stainless steel under heavy mechanical loads.
Common Applications
Marine & Offshore Valves – Used in seawater and brackish water systems due to excellent corrosion resistance.
Chemical Processing Valves – Handles mild acids, alkalis, and industrial chemicals.
Steam & Heat-Resistant Valves – Suitable for high-temperature industrial applications.
Slurry & Abrasive Fluid Valves – Common in pulp & paper, mining, and wastewater systems.
