Xylan® is a fluoropolymer-based coating commonly applied to valve components to enhance corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and lubrication properties. It is widely used in oil & gas, chemical, marine, and industrial valve applications.

Properties

  • Superior Corrosion Resistance – Protects against saltwater, chemicals, and harsh environments.
  • Low Friction & Non-Stick Properties – Reduces seizing, galling, and friction, improving valve performance.
  • High Wear & Abrasion Resistance – Extends valve life in high-cycle applications.
  • Temperature Resistance – Operates in a wide range from -195°C to 285°C (-319°F to 545°F).
  • Chemical Resistance – Withstands exposure to acids, alkalis, and hydrocarbons.

Xylan® vs. Other Coatings
• Better corrosion resistance than zinc plating or basic epoxy coatings
• Lower friction than PTFE (Teflon®), making it ideal for moving parts
• More wear-resistant than standard polymer coatings

Common types of Xylan® used in Valves
• Xylan® 1010 – Ultra-thin, low-friction coating for anti-galling applications
• Xylan® 1014 – Wear-resistant coating used for mildly corrosive environments
• Xylan® 1052 – Extreme corrosion resistance for offshore and subsea applications
• Xylan® 1424 – Designed for chemical resistance and high-temperature durability
• Xylan® 1070 – Food-grade coating for sanitary and pharmaceutical valves

Limitations

  • Limited Impact Resistance – Can wear over time in high-impact applications.
  • Dependent on Surface Preparation – Requires proper sandblasting and adhesion for optimal performance.
  • Not a Structural Material – Acts as a protective layer, not a replacement for corrosion-resistant alloys.

Common Applications

Oil & Gas Valves – Used in offshore, subsea, and high-pressure pipeline valves.
Chemical Processing Valves – Resists aggressive acids, solvents, and industrial chemicals.
Water & Wastewater Valves – Protects against chlorides and environmental corrosion.
Marine & Offshore Valves – Prevents saltwater corrosion and biofouling.
High-Temperature Valves – Applied to steam and power plant valves for added durability.
